When he was a child, Ilia Chernousov had practiced artistic gymnastic before he came to Cross-Country skiing...in 2005 Chernousov showed up for the first time at an international competition...he competed at the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Rovaniemi and finished 19th over 10 km... at the Junior Worlds in 2006 he won the silver medal in skiathlon right after Petter Northug...his first World Cup competition followed in Gällivare in December 2006... in 2007 and 2008 he impressed with good results at the U23 World Championships where he was fighting with Northug and Cologna for the top places... At the Junior World Championships in Tarvisio in 2007 he captured silver medal over 15 km and one year later in Males he claimed another silver medal in skiathlon... for the first time in his career he got a ticket for the FIS Nordic World Championships 2007 in Sapporo and took 31st place in skiathlon...in 2010 he made his first individual World Cup podium by finishing second in skiathlon.
The season 2010/11 his best was so far...with the bronze medal in Oslo at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships he completed a successful season including his first World Cup win in skiathlon in Rybinsk as well as the stage win in Falun (Prologue).
