Hellner started with Cross-Country skiing at an early age. His parents, who were both active in local athletics, saw that he practiced a variety of sports including soccer and tennis but skiing was his true passion. Hellner came into the World Cup circus in Borlänge in March 2006 where he was just shy of the top 30 after having taken the podium in the FIS U23 World Championships in Kranj with the third place in sprint before...... in Canmore in 2008 he made the top 10 in an individual competition for the first time placing sixth over the 15 km free technique..his first World Cup win came in 2008/2009 at his living place in Gällivare...on of the highlight of his present career were the Vancouver Olympics where he claimed victory in the Pursuit and in the relay.. in 2011 he took the World Champion title in sprint and won silver in relay.

…Hellner, who is by nature a calm person, is one of the people who can give it all but then can even go beyond his limits in the races. That is also what he did in Gällivare where he celebrated his first World Cup victory collapsing after the finish line because he had pushed himself so hard. The award ceremonies even had to be delayed because of him. “It was a tough race and at the end it felt like going into a tunnel with the audience and everything,” he commented afterwards.
