Joensson started skiing as a young child… after having tried different sports like soccer, orienteering and running he decided for cross-country skiing… he moved to Mora, Borlänge and Östersund to have the optimal education combined with skiing.. he got his start in sports with the Lake Placid Ski Club at age five… his first World Cup was in 2004 in Stockholm where he was 36th … in 2005 he won the bronze medal at the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships while he finished in the top 6 in the World Cup for the first time in Kuusamo in 2006...the first podium he took in 2007 in Stockholm and the first victory followed a year later in Canmore...at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver he reached the 7th place in sprint and won the sprint World Cup globe in the same year.. 2011 he could repeat his overall win of the sprint World Cup and took as well the third place at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in sprint behind his teammate Marcus Hellner and Petter Northug (NOR). |
