Growing up in the Northern Ontario city of Sudbury, Devon’s parents were instrumental in developing and nurturing a love of the natural environment and active lifestyle – both of which are cornerstones of his life today.

An active Canadian sport enthusiast growing up playing hockey, volleyball, badminton, tennis and running competitively, Devon skied for Laurentian Nordic as a junior where he represented Canada at three FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships (2000-2002), and won 18 national junior titles.

Devon’s career took off after moving to Canmore to be a full-time member of the National Ski Team. Days removed from competing in his first Olympic Winter Games in 2006, Devon solidified himself internationally as an explosive sprinter when he became the first Canadian male to achieve a sprint podium result with a third place performance in Borlange, Sweden – and only the second Canadian male ever to reach the World Cup podium. This ground breaking result blazed the trail for the Canadian men’s squad who are now a force to reckon with internationally.

Devon and his Canadian teammates captured the nation’s attention at Whistler Olympic Park when three of them finished in the top-10 in the Olympic pursuit race. While delivering seven top-10 performances as a team throughout the Games, Kershaw put down one of the gutsiest efforts of the Olympics when he missed the podium by a fraction of a second in the 50-kilometre classic-ski race.

Feeding off this electrifying performance with the nation watching, the two-time Olympian proved he is one of the most consistent all-round skiers in the world in 2011 where he finished eighth overall on the World. Kershaw rewrote the history books during his historic season where he became the second Canadian male ever to win a stage race during a thrilling Tour de Ski. Kershaw then teamed up with Alex Harvey to become the first Canadian males to win a medal at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships when they shocked the world to win gold in the team sprint relay in Oslo, Norway.

… Devon Kershaw is an excitable person on and off the ski trails, He stays busy playing in the mountains, hanging out with his girlfriend Chandra Crawford (Olympic Champion 2006 in sprint), sipping cappuccinos with friends, playing guitar and taking photos

…Beyond skiing Devon plans to return to school to pursue a degree in medicine, with the eventual goal of becoming a doctor specializing in sports medicine.

… Kershaw is the oldest of three children, sister Linnaea is a journalism student in Vancouver and brother Sean an Art History student in Montreal.

…To the question of one of his most emotional sport performances he stated: ”In 2005, one week before the 2005 World Championships I qualified for my first 2006 Winter Olympic Games (with a 25th place in a classic sprint World Cup in Reit Im Winkl, Germany). I remember cooling down after the race, almost unable to believe that a life long goal (racing for Canada at the Olympic Games) was achieved. I’ll never forget it (not even the German cold rain that was pouring down on me!)”

… Kershaw’s favourite vacation place is Kaua’i, Hawai’i: „The Kalalau trail (16.7km long hiking trail along the Na Pali Coastline) is both beautiful and surreal and the camping spot on Kalalau Beach is one of the most stunning places I’ve ever been. That – and back country skiing anywhere in the Rockies. Assiniboine, Roger’s Pass, Wapta Icefields – I am lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth“
