The Marcha Blanca Race Organization and its partners are set to go with the first ever “International Month of Cross Country Skiing.” All events take place this August around Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.
The body of events includes the Marcha Blanca 21/7/3 KM Freestyle Race, The Ushuaia Loppet 42 KM Freestyle Ski Marathon, the Mini Marcha Blanca for six to twelve year-olds, and “Master Classes” for adults featuring some of the regions most experienced skiers serving as instructors. The main sponsor for all the Marcha Blanca related events is Salomon.
Apart from the previous events, the Club Andino Ushuaia will also run three FIS sanctioned races the 10th - 12th of August at the Francisco Jerman Nordic Ski Area on the newly homologated loops at that area. Part of the goal is to provide more competitive opportunities for skiers like Federico Cichero, one of Argentina’s FIS Developing Nations Group skiers.
Fueguino Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Echazú, has also successfully negotiated the regular grooming of 17 KM of the Marcha Blanca/Provincial Cross Country Ski Trail four times a week for about a month. Cerro Castor is funded to groom the eastern sector and Centro Invernal Tierra Mayor is funded to groom the western sector, combining their own experienced drivers and Pisten Bullies in order to keep the trail well prepared.
The snow this austral winter in Tierra del Fuego is excellent after a huge storm in early June piled over one and half meters of snow on the region that typically has steady temperatures around 0 celsius.
