The Organizers of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup sprint competition in Drammen on March 13 are on schedule just a week before the best sprinters in the world attend this popular city sprint.

This year, Drammen is also celebratingthe 10th year anniversary of the City Sprint. During this time Drammen hosted eight sprint competitions downtown and in 2011 organized two-day World Cup competitions at Konnerud; the home of the organizing club.

“For this year we have produced 6000 m3 of snow. It has been stored at Konnerud, and we will start to cover the streets of Drammen with snow on Sunday,” Chief of Competition Pål Espen Nordhaug says.

There have been minor changes put in place on the competition course this year to make it even more difficult and to make double-poling the whole course almost impossible. “We start the sprint event already on the 12th of March with a youth sprint for the best qualified sprinters in the area aged between 15 and 20 years. This sprint is organized in cooperation with DNB,” Arne Madsen – president of the OC reveals.

The traditional "Kids Race" follows with usually participation of more than 1000 kids.

“We try to increase the number of side events to make the whole happening even bigger. We have also started a cooperative partnership together with "Aktiv mot Kreft" - a cancer organization, which raises money for cancer prevention,” Madsens explains.

The main ambassador for this initiative is Bente Skari – the fantastic Cross-Country skier who won the first city sprint in Drammen back in 2003.
