The 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun has gained three new ambassadors. The trio was awarded this coveted honour at a press conference preceding the FIS Cross-Country World Cup Final in Falun.
There will only be a very select few awarded the prestigious title – in fact only one before them, Torgny Mogren. Charlotte Kalla, Emil Jönsson and Anna Haag were awarded the title of ambassador not only for their prowess as skiers but also as outstanding representatives of Swedish skiing.
The awards can also be seen as a thankyou for their hard work leading up to the FIS selection of World Championship venue in Antalya in the summer of 2010. "Their efforts were decisive in bringing the championships home to Sweden," says Sven von Holst, who spearheads preparations in Falun.
The press conference turned into a very relaxed and pleasant occasion as the skiers began to reminisce about their days lobbying for the Falun bid in Turkey. They compared the excitement they felt prior to the fi nal presentation they held for the FIS Council with the nerves they feel before a major cross-country race.
Charlotte Kalla told the audience:– Our commitment during the days leading up to the ballot probably was quite important when it was time for the voting itself. But I also have to say that the whole campaign group did everything in their power and left no stone unturned.
