Another candidate to host FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 is Planica, Slovenia. The famous host of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cups is ready to welcome world's best Nordic skiers.
Q: Why is Planica a candidate to host 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships? How many times have you run your bid?
The answer to the questions why is Planica a candidate is obvious for the generations in the valley under Ponce who have long been dreaming about World Championship competitions. A wealth of experience, heritage, vision, investing in a modern Nordic Center, strong public support, picturesque nature, crossroads of many routes and other reasons work in favour of our efforts. Planica has never before hosted Nordic World Ski Championships and is therefore determined to win this candidacy and set new milestones in winter sports.
Q: What makes you different from the others?
Upon arrival in Planica - as many visitors in the past decades have experienced - it takes your breath away. One of a kind event site in Planica, which will be even more recognizable with the new Nordic Center, represents a perfect ground for Nordic sports. Or, as the candidacy ambassador Petra Majdič has said: “The venue situated in the middle of 2000m high mountains is unique in the world. If this is Nordic sport, let it be seen that it is a sport performed in nature.” Micro-climate in Planica is another strong card. Athletes fighting for medals should have the best conditions. In other words the competition results shouldn’t be affected by luck and weather. And as has been shown in the past, Planica can offer excellent conditions.
Q: What is the core of your bid? What would the Champs at your venue be like and what would people remember in 2027 about them?
Planica can truly be described as the future of Nordic skiing. It contains all the elements necessary for the organization of such a large and high profile sporting event. The solid foundations of rich history combined with ambitious plans make a powerful mix, that can offer something remarkable. People should have the opportunity to witness Nordic sports in its purest form, that is in one-of-a-kind venue, which is indistinguishable with nature. On the other hand there are athletes, who dedicate their lives to these sports. They must have the opportunity to achieve their goals, and for that they need the best possible conditions. 2017 Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica will be simply unforgettable for anybody that will participate - in one way or the other. A unique kind of future for Nordic skiing will be set.
Q: What are your plans for the final phase of your candidacy before the FIS Congress in Korea?
To present the emotions and experience we can give as a WCS organizer. And there will be also something to eat and drink at our stand.
