Marcialonga Management Board decided not to increase the maximum number of participants. Entry limit set at 6.500 competitors. Entries will open on April 1st 2010
Now it's time to focus on the Marcialonga Cycling race scheduled on May 30th.
After the great success of the 2010 Marcialonga, when around 6.500 skiers ‘invaded' Italy's Fiemme and Fassa valleys last January, cross country ski lovers from all over the world expected the Marcialonga organising committee to increase the entry limit for next year's competition, as the maximum number of participants last year was reached three months ahead of the race.
However, the Marcialonga Management Board opted not to allow more than 6.500 competitors to 2011 race, simply because they are not trying to break a record of capacity. What they really aim to reach is the highest level of satisfaction amongst the participants, as the quality of the race experience is way more important than the number of skiers registered.
Entries for the 2011 Marcialonga - scheduled on January 30th - will open on April 1st and close once the maximum number of participants is reached. Last year's race hosted athletes from 28 nations, and among them 2.245 were Norwegians, 2.073 Italians and 1.216 Swedes.
Great satisfaction for the organising committee also for the TV audience. In Italy, Marcialonga 2010 registered 8.764.000 TV spectators and abroad (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark) 1.177.000 spectators. During the 37th edition, for the first time the TV images were broadcasted live abroad, thanks to the Swedish agency IEC.
Meanwhile, the Italian OC keeps working hard for the 4th Marcialonga Cycling race scheduled on Sunday 30th May. This race is part of the new International challenge, Worldloppet Cycling Races, which includes eight cycling events in Italy, Estonia, Czech Republic, Austria, Norway, Sweden and Australia.
