Matti Heikkinen received second prize in the Sports Personality of the Year award in Finland, Kaisa Mäkäräinen voted athlete of the year.

Matti Heikkinen, the World Champion from Oslo, received from Finnish journalists 2453 votes. Biathlete Mäkäräinen got 3205 votes and carries on the ladies' dominance in the Finnish award. The three previous Sports Personality of the Year titles were also won by a female athlete.

In 2010 it was Aino Kaisa Saarinen who got the award after having won three gold and one bronze medal at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec 2009.
