Brent McMurtry and Alysson Marshall will be putting their Haywood NorAm records on the line as the Series picks up again on February 3rd for the first day of the three day mini-tour scheduled for the Haywood NorAm Eastern Canadian Championships at Nakkertok Nordique, just north of Ottawa in Cantley, Quebec.
Over the first two weekends of February five Haywood competitions will be held including the final Haywood NorAm for 2012 at the Mont Orford Ski Centre in Magog, Quebec. McMurtry and Marshall have the highest point totals in the NorAm Series after 10 competitions but face stiff competition from Kevin Sandau and Emily Nishikawa who sit second only 40 and 107 points in arrers. The lead could change quickly as 500 points are on the line for the three race mini-tour at Nakkertok. Last season Nishikawa swept the women's field with 3 golds and the aggregate crown to prove the courses at Nakkertok suit her style.
The FIS Regional Series is even closer as Kevin Sandau slipped ahead of Brent McMurtry on the last day of the Haywood NorAm mini-tour in Canmore. Counting an athletes best 6 races from the first part of the season, Sandau is 100 points ahead of McMurtry while Marshall holds a slim 15 point lead on Nishikawa. The next FIS period comes to end on February 18 where an athlete counts their best 8 races with the victors booking a ticket to the March World Cups.
