36-year old from Sappada, northern Italy had hoped for more before the World Cup season kicked off. In the first part of the season before Christmas he looked into top 30 only once, in Kuusamo.

World Champion from Oberstdorf 2005 over 15 km Free "Killer Piller" entered the season with 39th place in the same distance at the season opener in Gällivare. In Ruka Triple at Kuusamo he took first World Cup points for 27th spot. In Davos Cottrer finished 41st, but it was classic, weaker discipline of the Italian. "I knew that the beginning of the season was not sparkling, but frankly, I had expected more," he wrote on his page.

It is difficult to find where the shoe pinches for Cottrer. He was not ill in the off-season and could carry training as planned. "The work was done properly. I am satisfied with how I trained in autumn," he said.

Main goal lies on Oslo

Nevertheless the italian remains positive and optimistic. After all, his main goal lies in Norwegian Oslo. "There is still time to ask Santa Claus for a bit of luck for next year. It will get better, I'm sure about that" writes Pietro Piller Cottrer on his page.  For me it is the most important part of off-season training", and also good now as there is still time to ask Santa Claus a bit of luck for the new year and then I'm sure it will get better.

No Tour de Ski for Cottrer

Piller Cottrer skips first highlihjt of the season - Tour de Ski in order to properly prepare for the World Championships of Oslo where he aims to conquer the Holy Grail of all Cross-Country skiers - victory on Holmenkollen over 50 km. ůI do not give up, the season is long. Merry Christmas and Happy 2011 to all," concluded Pietro Piller Cottrer.
