The fourth edition of FIS Tour de Ski 2010 ended with the victory of Lukas Bauer of the Czech Republic. While the man from Bozi Dar won for the second time since 2008, German athlete did not stand on the podium for the first time in the Tour history. Nevertheless, the Germans were satisfied, most notably Rene Sommerfeld, who finished 6th.
Did your training at Fichtelberg paid back in the Final Climb on Alpe Cermis?
R.S. It was good that I was preparing for the Final Clim. The competition on Sunday was different than in 2008 (Sommerfeld finished 2nd). Time gaps in the overall standings were bigger and more athletes in front wanted to go high speed.Lukas Bauer surprised many people, you too?
R.S. Not really, not after his performance on Saturday, he was my favorite. Lukas had health problems in the beginning of this season. He showed at the Tour in great shape. Congratulations! No German on the podium, for the first time in the history of the FIS Tour de Ski. How could this happen?
R.S. We set our main goal as the Olympic Games in Vancouver this season. Therefore we are happy both with our performance in individual races and with general classification. Our season will be judged according to results at Olympic Games. How does your preparation continue?
R.S. First of all we must to put our feet up as last days were no picnic at all. Then we will continue training. I cannot say now which World Cups I will go to before Olympics.
