Used Course
Ladies: 2 x 5km Men: 2 x 7,5kmWeatherforecast
It will be colder this night until -3°C and tomorrow partly cloudy, no snowfall and up to 4°C.Starting order
The strongest athletes are set into the starting field from number bib number 11 due to the weatherforecast.Special remarks to the participants:
Petra Majdic will not compete in the 10 km ladies race, she is more focusing in the other distances.
Race Director Jürg Capol's remark:
I expect tomorrow a great competition on a demanding course, where you have no steep uhills but also no rest in the downhills. The athletes will have to work all the time and I believe it will be a race for technical good skiers. The course will be prepared this night and tomorrow morning and also a kind of natural stabilizer will be used. This was tested already today and we were quite happy with the result. The athletes will get good conditions for the 10 km and 15 km interval start competition tomorrow
In the women's fields names like Charlotte Kalla, Marit Bjoergen and also the full-speed lady Justyna Kowalczyk can be on the podium but we have also not to forget the Italians with Follis and Longa. On the men's side it will be even tighter I guess, a lot of athletes have the capability to win a medal - it would be easy to loose money in betting here. But surely the World Cup leaders Northug, Bauer, Cologna and Hellner are good candidates for a podium spot.
Additonal remark:
This race opens the Olympic cross-country ski schedule at the $120 million multi-use Whistler Olympic Park in the Callaghan Valley. The native from Norway John Aalberg, also a former athlete, designed the course.
