Swiss Cross-Country skier Seraina Mischol has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Nevertheless, the 29-year-old skier from Graubünden wants to continue her skiing career.

Seraina Mischol made the announcement on her website and NZZ am Sonntag. On September 16 she consulted with an ophthalmologist an optic nerve inflammation. On the same day, she was diagnosed in Intelspital Bern with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), a precursor to MS. “As this was my first officially diagnosed sign, it is called in my case, not MS, but just CIS,” Seraina Mischol explains on her website.

MS is a disease of the central nervous system. Except the optical nerve inflammation Mischol has not had any other problems. “Because the diagnosis was also a big shock at first and my little sports world suddenly collapsed. But even a sleepless night later, I decided to continue to think positively and live, and I decided not to give up without a fight,” Seraina Mischol writes.

Mischol plans to continue her Cross-Country skiing career and to take part in some of the FIS Marathon Cup races next winter for the Engadin Ski Marathon Team.
