Successful summer inspection in Gällivare

The final countdown has started for the FIS Cross-Country World Cup opener in Norbotten has begun with 92 days to go.

On November 24 -15 all eyes of Cross-Country Skiing World will be set to Gälivare for the first World Cup competition of the 2012/13 season.

“We are confident about Gällivare as the World Cup host. Hellner stadium and the tracks are very good there and the LOC has been developing constantly. Additionally, Gällivare is very snow-secure and I am confident we will have a good kick off of the season there,” Pierre Mignerey, FIS Cross-Country Race Director said.

FIS representatives carried out the summer inspection in Gällivare and gave thumb up for the preparation of the first Cross-Country World Cup of the season. The working agenda of the inspection covered all aspects of World Cup organization ranging from sport issues to transportation.

“We are constantly working on improving our event and signals from the FIS are very positive after the inspection. I promise we will organize a great weekend in November. With home skiers such as Marcus Hellner and Charlotte Kalla we can again look forward to the real skiing festival. The people in Gällivare are very proud to be hosting the World Cup competitions again,” chief of competition Lars-Gunnar Petterson said.

FIS Cross-Country World Cup season opener is the largest sports event in Norbotten and the TV audience of the competitions is reaching 60 million worldwide.
