The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme are over. And in 2015, it will be Falun that will be organizing the FIS World Championships in the Nordic disciplines.  Sven von Holst is head of the Organizing team in Falun and he’s very conscious that they have two years of very hard work ahead of them.

”My co-workers have the same feeling – and that’s a good thing because now we’re going to be raising the quality of our work even more. We’ve got a number of major projects in store that have to be completed successfully – as well as a number of important decisions that have to be passed for this to be a really world-class event,” says Sven von Holst.

Together with the representatives from the town of Falun, the World Championships Organizers had about 70 delegates on site in Val di Fiemme to study the event in detail.

And Sven von Holst is really pleased that Falun made such a concerted effort:

“It was really important that we got to study the entire organization down here in close detail. Quite a few of us took part in the official study program run by the Italian Organizers. Others had the chance to shadow their Italian counterparts. All of this was of huge value to us and I’d like to convey thanks from all of us for the welcome we were given in Val di Fiemme.”

Sven von Holst is also happy to see that the stay in the Italian resort has helped to strengthen the team spirit in the Swedish Organizer’s team.

“It’s important that people get to know each other. They enjoy their work more and that will help to get even more people committed to making a success of the Championships during the next two years.”

How is Falun keeping up to schedule?

“Generally speaking, we’re on track. It’s essential we keep up speed in our work so that we have time to spare later, if we need it. But in certain aspects, such as major investments in infrastructure, we’re teetering on the edge. But I’m counting on everything being finished in time – just because it has to be. We have no choice,” says Sven von Holst, who’s also met quite a few Norwegians in Italy who have shown a great interest in the coming Word Championships in Falun.

“A number of them have been inquiring about accommodation. And I tell them that we’re counting on being able to provide a range of different accommodation options for everyone.”
