Tour de Ski Invitation is out

The International Ski Federation (FIS), together with the National Ski Associations of the Germany and Italy, takes pleasure in inviting all FIS Member Associations to participate in the VIESSMANN FIS TOUR DE SKI PERFORMANCE BY CRAFT SPORTSWEAR 2010/11. 

For the fifth time the best Cross-Country skiers will meet at the end of the year for the Tour de Ski, which will once more determine the best universal skier of the season. "Five years ago the FIS president blessed this new Cross-Country competition by saying that it is a small baby that will hopefully develop to become an annual season highlight" writes Tour father Vegard Ulvang in his welcome.

Tour de Ski has become a sport highlight not only from athletes' perspective as most of the skiers count Tour de Ski victory among their biggest goals but as well from media and TV interest. Tour de Ski has become a true festival of  Cross-Country skiing. In the World Championships season we can look forward for the best skiers again. Charlotte Kalla will make a Tour comeback and will attempt to steal back the overall victory. Petter Northug will fight back again as the Tour victory is still missing in his collection.

Tour de Ski Program

As in past two editions Tour de Ski will kick off with a prologue in Oberhof. Second stage will follow on the New Year's day with 10/15 km Classic handicap start. After first two stages in Oberhof the Tour de Ski circus moves to Oberstdorf, which celebrates come back into the Tour calendar. Oberstdorf will host on January 2, 2011 Sprint Classic and on January 3, 2011 5+5km/10+10 km Pursuit. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 is the rest day. Teams will travel to Toblach, where Sprint Free takes place on January 5. On Thursday men skiers will race popular A to B race from Cortina to Toblach, which is characterized by picturesque landscape of South Tirol. Ladies will compete over 15 km free. Friday, January 7 is again the rest day. Tour de Ski moves for final two stages to Val di Fiemme. Saturday will see 10/20 km Classic race with mass start. Sunday is traditional connected with the Grande Finale in the form of Final Climb.
