The Swedish Cross Country skier Hanna Brodin, 20, was overjoyed when she won one gold and two bronze medals in the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships recently in Hinterzarten, Germany .
And now she has another dream.
"I'm hoping for more gold medals when the World Ski Championships are held at home in Falun-Dalarna in 2015. I live only 800 metres from the ski stadium and have grown up there. So of course it would be really special to win a World Championship medal in front of all my friends and relations in Falun."
Even though Hanna Brodin is only 20, she's already a well- known sporting personality in Falun and throughout Dalarna. There are plenty of locals that have seen this dedicated kid year after year running up to the Lugnet National Stadium to do her training.
Even as a child, Hanna said she wanted to compete with the best skiers in the world - in both the World Cup and the World Cham- pionships. And last year she finally made it - when she got to compete in the World Championships in Liberec as well as the FIS World Cup Final in Falun.
"It was really terrific to take part in the Swedish Ski games in
front of my home crowd" Hanna says.
And this winter Hanna Brodin has proved that she is still coming on rapidly when she won the JWC gold at Hinterzarten as well as the bronze medals in the 5 km and the relay. And the people of her home town of Falun were overjoyed - now they just want to see her in a World Championships at her home arena in 2015. "I'll be 25 by then and should be at the peak of my skiing career. What an experience it would be." Hanna told us she's following the Beyond Skiing 2015 bid closely. She thinks the concept looks very promising:
"Yes, it's really exciting that they want to create a lot of other interest around the actual skiing events."
Hanna Brodin herself was only three years old when the World Championships were last held in Falun in 1993. So of course she doesn't remember the huge festival of skiing that was such a success then. But she's seen the videotape of Torgny Mogren winning the 50 km in front of a 50 000 jubilant home crowd many times.
"There seems to have been such a fantastic atmosphere. Just imagine if Falun-Dalarna gets the Championships in 2015 and I get the chance to win a gold medal in front of 50 000 supporters. As a skier, you couldn't ask for a grea- ter experience", Hanna Brodin ends before she skis off for yet another training session in Falun's classic Cross Country tracks.
