On July 30th Justyna Kowalczyk, her coach Alexander Wierietielny and Maciej Kreczmer took off for one-month training camp in New Zealand.

After having travelled 17,000 kilometers, the Olympic champion from Vancouver kicked off training on snow on August 1st.  There are ideal winter conditions in New Zealand with temperatures between minus five and zero degrees Celsius, clear skies and all trails open.

Justyna Kowalczyk will spend the coming month at Snow Farm, located some 55 km away from Queenstown. Snow Farm is located at 1500 meters above the sea level and was specially developed for Cross-Country skiers. The courses are 55 km long and the facility can accommodate 60 people. Next weekend on August 8th-11th there are FIS Australia/New Zealand Continental Cup competitions are scheduled and Justyna Kowalczyk is going to be at the start line.

“Competitions always spice up the monotonous training. Anyway, racing is the best training. In this case the competition will take place literally two meters from our hotel doorstep,”Justyna Kowalczyk says.

The Polish ace plans to take part in the Merino Muster ski marathon, which will be held on August 18th, 42 km long winter triathlon consisting of running through the snow on foot, MTB on snow and Cross-Country skiing.

“I planned the training camp in New Zealand having these races in sight. I hope I will be able to carry out everything,” the Polish skier said.
