VENUE DESCRIPTIONBeitostølen is situated in the middle of the southern part of Norway approx. 220 km from the capital Oslo. The small mountain village lies at 900 meters above the sea level and has 500 inhabitants. It offers developed touristic infrastructure which includes three hotels, three appartmenthotels, two cottage camps and a camping site. There are more than 3000 rentable beds in addition to 20.000 beds in private cabins and chalets. There are grocery stores, sports-shops and a lot of other shops in different varieties. Beitostølen is easily accessible from Oslo. There is express bus-line six times a day. The nearest international airport is Oslo-Gardermoen not more than 3,5 hours from Beitostølen. Just 45 min away from Beitostølen there is a small airport Leirin airport which is reachable with a 30-seat aircraft twice a day from Gardermoen. Beitostølen and its surroundings is very popular among Norwegians. Famous cross-country skiers like Vegard Ulvang, Odd-Bjørn Hjelmeseth, Anders Aukland and biathletes like Ole-Einar Bjørndalen and Frode Andresen have their weekend houses in Beitostølen.
COMPETITION SITE
The cross-country stadium is only 5 min walk from the village centre. There are homologated tracks from Sprint to 15 km, an international Biathlon arena, 6,5 km of high pressure pipes for artofficial snow production and flood lighted tracks in total distance reaching 5 km. In addition there are facilities needed for 35 wax cabins, press facilities, athletes room and everything needed for an international Cross-Country race 1700 m2.
Beitostølen has organized many competitions including World Cups in Cross-Country, Biathlon, Telemark-skiing, Winter Triathlon and Nordic Combined. In summer time the OC is organizing big orienteering events like Norwegian Championchips, "Villmannen" The Wild Man, Norway biggest winter-triathlon is a natural part of the summer programme as well as "Fjelleventyret", the Mountain Adventure, a street race over the local mountainpass at 1400 meters above the sea level with distances ranging from 7 km to marathon.
