VENUE DESCRIPTION

Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park

A year-round recreation destination
Developed for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games Nordic events, the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park remains a world-class facility. In 2005 the Centre was significantly renovated to re-establish itself as one of the top cross country, biathlon and mountain bike destinations in the world. Come and enjoy the great outdoors in the company and history of Olympians. The Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park is the home of Canada's national Cross-Country and Biathlon ski teams.
The Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park hosted Cross Country World Cup events in December 2005 and January 2008. The Park also hosted the IBU Biathlon Youth and Junior World Championship in January 2009. The facility has ample trail and facility to host simultaneous World Cups in Biathlon and Cross Country and still provide more than 40 km of recreational ski trail. During the summer months, the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park also hosts world class mountain biking events, including the 24-Hour Endurance Mountain Bike World Championship in 2008 and 2009. In July 2010 the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park will host Canadian National Championships in the sport of Mountain Biking.
The Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park is located at 1460 m above sea level. It is only 4 km from the Town of Canmore and 25 km from the Town of Banff. The Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park is part of Kananaskis Country and borders Banff National Park, two significant wilderness areas. Visitors to the area enjoy cross country skiing, alpine skiing and hiking, running, and mountain biking in the summer months, among many other recreational opportunities.
