VENUE DESCRIPTION

The village looks back over hundreds of years of tourist tradition, and offers a varied selection of holiday offers. The closeness to the most renowned peaks in the Dolomites, the good climate, and the cultural variety, as well as the sports offer are only some of the reasons why Dobbiaco is one of the most popular destinations in South Tyrol. With regard to mass sports Dobbiaco offers cross-country skiing, winter hiking, alpine skiing, snowboarding, snow-shoe hikes, ski touring and ice-skating in winter, and hiking, cycling tours, mountain hikes, climbing, fishing and tennis in winter.

Dobbiaco is only 33km from Cortina d'Ampezzo, located near Austria, and characterized by Tyrolean customs, and the German dialect, which is still the mother tongue of locals. Italian is the second language in South Tyrol, hence South Tyroleans speak German and Italian.

Speaking of cross-country skiing, of Dobbiaco and its sports traditions, it's impossible not to speak about the big sports personalities who made Nordic disciplines grow into the hearts of local people. The younger came up in the 80s and 90s, mainly among the wohmen with Monika Schwingshackl, the famous Santer sisters, Nathalie, Saskia and Stefanie, wo have been keeping up the name of Dobbiaco and its passion for cross-country skiing even throught the love between Nathalie Santer and the legendary champion Ole Einar Bioerndalen, who got married three years ago in Dobbiaco.

COMPETITION SITE

The new sport stadium of Dobbiaco is located in the southern part of the village and offers a wide range of sport activities, for both the summer and the winter season.
The modern stadium building which will be inaugurated during the World Cup festivities the 6th January 2010 is fitted out with a restaurant, sanitation facilities and a renting sevice for sport equipment. And yet the climbing hall - the biggest one in Italy and the professionally planned cross-country skiing courses (which can be used as roller-ski runway in the summer) are the highlights of the new sports complex of Dobbiaco/Toblach.
