Almost three quarters of the area are landscape conservation areas and nature reserves. Furthermore, there are 120 km of ski slopes, more than 75 km of cross-country tracks, 200 km of hiking trails (of which in winter 140 km are well prepared), the world's first XCO Trail, Germany's highest altitude Nordic Walking trail, and many more possibilities for our guests.
Oberstdorf is internationally known as a holiday resort for summer and winter holidays as well as health resort. In 1937, Oberstdorf got the title "Health Resort". Oberstdorf builds on this tradition. In partnering with Germany's omprehensive health initiative "Deutschland bewegt sich" (Germany moves) a unique tourism project was created, for which the German Tourism Association presented Oberstdorf with the German Tourism Award. In addition to the diverse offer of active sports - you can do 101 different kinds of sports - you also have a great choice for moderate exercise. This is why Oberstdorf was elected Hiking Resort and Nordic Walking Destination of the year 2007.
VENUE INFORMATION
The Cross Country Stadium in Ried is located in the south of Oberstdorf. The short distance to the center of Oberstdorf with only 5 minutes by car and 15 minutes to walk is one big advantage of the Cross Country Stadium. The Stadium was built up in 2003/2004 for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 and therefore also the snow making system was installed for over 12 km slopes. The Stadium itself offers space for 10.000 spectators and additional 15.000 spectators on the track. In the Stadium attractive tribune places will be installed. For the sprint races almost the complete slope can be seen from the stadium and in addition the spectators in the stadium have a perfect view on the video wall. An attractive and extensive side program will complete the "adventure" in the Cross Country Stadium Ried in Oberstdorf.
In Summer 2009 the roller tracks have been extended so that more than 7 km can be used for training and competition.
