VENUE DESCRIPTION

Birkebeinerrennet is one of the oldest and most challenging races in Worldloppet with 15.000 participants. The cross country corse is 54 km long (Nordic Classic). All competitors must have passed 16 years of age as per December 31, 2010 and must carry a rucksack weighing at least 3,5 kg througout race and at finish line.Lillehammer is a town and municipality in the county of Oppland, Norway, globally known for hosting the 1994 Winter Olympics. Lillehammer does not have an airport, but Norway´s main international airport, Oslo Airport Gardermoen, is located only 145 km (90 miles) from Lillehammer. The town is located right off the E-6 highway which is the major travel artery from southern to northern Norway.

COMPETITION SITE

The Cross-Country stadium (startarea) is situated approx. 3 km west of Rena. The course to the finish are in Lillehammer is 54 km well-prepared skiing tracks.
The Cross-Country stadium in Lillehammer (finisharea) is the same arena as the Winther Olympics used in 1994 .
Every 3rd Saturday in March Cross-Country skiers can take part in the famous ski marathon, "Birkebeinerrennet" which starts in Rena and reaches Skramstadsætra, Kvarstad, Midtfjellet and Sjusjøen before finish at Birkebeineren Skistadium in Lillehammer.
