VENUE DESCRIPTION
Center of Sport and Leisure "Demino" is situated in a picturesque, ecologically clean place, on the bank of the Volga River, 350 km away from Moscow, 70 km - from Yaroslavl, and 20 km - from Rybinsk.
Rybinsk is one of the oldest Slavic settlements on the Volga River. The place was first mentioned in chronicles in 1071 as Ust-Sheksna, i.e. "the mouth of the Sheksna River". For the next four centuries, the settlement was called Ust-Sheksna or Rybansk. Since 1504 it was mentioned in documents as Rybnaya Sloboda (literally: "a fishing village"). The name is explained by the fact that the settlement supplied Moscow Court with sturgeons and sterlets.
Nowadays Rybinsk is a developing town which follows modern time and honors its traditions.
One of his good traditions is carrying out World Cup Cross-Country in Ski Sport Centre of world level "Demino".
Demino provides ski athletes with excellent conditions for training and carrying out winter sports competitions. In 2003 Russian government assigned Center Demino a status of the Regional Center of sport training. Since 2004 Cross-country Championships of Russia have been held in Demino. In winter seasons 2007 - 2009 Demino was chosen as a place for the FIS World Cup Cross-Country.
Natural landscape of the Center is unique: hilly plain is mixed with quiet elevation changes, clear air, and Koloksha pine wood reservation. "Demino" has developed infrastructure. The stadium with stands for 7000 spectators, cottage settlement, sports hotel, restaurant complex "Pristan", cafe, sports module, hockey court. "Demino" - is a multifunctional center of sports of international level functioning all-the-year-round.

COMPETITION SITE

The stadium is situated approx. 18 km to the east of Rybinsk - the second city (240000 inhabitants) of Yaroslavl region.
A large number of well-prepared cross-country skiing courses, which could also be covered with artificial snow, are located nearby.
The capacity of the stadium is about 7.000 spectators, and approx. 25.000 can watch the competitions standing along the track. The stadium of "Demino" was used for the FIS Cross-Country World Cup in seasons 2006-2007, 2007-2008 and is in plan of the FIS for season 2009-2010. Every January cross-country skiers can participate in the famous ski marathon "Deminoski" consisting of two different 25-km laps situated in neighboring woods and along the coast of the Great Russian River Volga.

OTHER SPORT EVENTS

The main events of winter seasons in "Demino" are the FIS WORLD CUP CROSS COUNTRY which takes place every year since January 2007 and traditional ski marathon "Deminoski" with more than 1000 participants. There are fine conditions for carrying out national championships and international competitions on winter triathlon, archery-biathlon, and races on snowmobiles and quadrocyckles (ATV Utility) in "Demino". In summer time we organize here national championships and international competitions on tourism, thriathlon, cycling, rollerskiing, aquabiking (AquaTrax), motorcycling, quadrocyckling, track and field athletics sports.
