VENUE DESCRIPTION
Sigulda (German: Siegewald) is town in the Vidzeme region in Latvia, 53 km from the capital city Riga. Sigulda is situated in a picturesque part of Gauja National Park territory. Get from Riga to Sigulda is very easy - by train or by bus which goes every hour. Sigulda is crossing A2 auto road Rīga - Veclaicene. Number of inhabitants in Sigulda town in 2006 was 10 641.

The Gauja National Park
Gauja National Park was founded in 1973, and it was the first national park in the territory of Latvia at that time. It's territory of 91 745 ha is divided into five functional areas. Forests cover 47% of the park territory. About 900 plant, 149 bird and 48 mammal species inhabit the territory of the Gauja National Park.

The most popular historical objects and monuments of culture
* Medieval Sigulda Castle - built by the Order of the Brethren of the Sword.
* Sigulda New Castle- it was built as a living house for the manor owners Kropotkins from 1878 - 1881.
* Turaida Medieval Castle (1214) and Turaida Museum Reserve (1988).
* Krimulda Medieval Castle - it was built in classical style (1848).
* Painter's hill - the hill offer a spectacular view and it is portrayed in the works of many painters.
* Satesele Castle Mound - it was significant Gauja Liv fortification.
* Devil's Cave - similar to other sandstone outcroppings, this cliff was also formed over 300 million years ago.
OTHER SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

Winter

In winter Reina trase, Latvia's premier winter sports centre. Here you can find perfect conditions for slalom, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snow tubing, kid's snow park with SunKid wonder carpet lift and kid's room with nanny and other activities.

Summer

In summer, activities include golf at the adjacent Reina golf course (9 holes), bicycling, mountain boarding, canoeing in a 500-metre canal and other activities.

TRAVE TO SIGULDA

Bus 

Traveled by bus to the Riga city center. Then go to the Riga bus-station and looking for the bus route Riga - Ragana - Sigulda. Ask bus driver to be released at Reina track - 2km before Turaida.
Ticket price ~ 1,5 LVL/pers

Train 

Travel by bus to the Riga city center. Then go to the railway station Origo. Also buy a ticket Riga - Sigulda. In Sigulda find a bus station and travel by bus Sigulda - Krimulda or Sigulda - Ragana - Riga and ask to be released at Reina track.
