Szklarska Poręba is located in the southern west of Poland. It is surrounded by the Karkonosze Mountains form one side, and by the Izery Mountains from the other. Szklarska Poręba is one of the biggest Polish ski centres in the Sudety Mountains. Three cable railways, including Karkonosz-Ekspress, the longest in Poland seat for six people, a few ski lifts and well-prepared ski pistes allow both the beginners and advanced skiers to practice skiing.
Polana Jakuszycka, which is located in the Izery Mountains, is the paradise for cross-country skiers. Bieg Piastów (The Race of Piasts), the biggest in Poland and one of the biggest ski races in the world, is held here every year.
Szklarska Poręba is also Cycling Region. Both the youngest and the oldest fans of two wheels check their skills on 400 km of picturesque cycling paths. But first of all there are hundreds of paths designed for trekking for the whole year. Scenic landscapes resembling the high Alps and northern tundra, National Park and reserves. The stories full of magic and mysteries.
After the day full of activities on the trails, there are attractions in the town for the whole family. Rodzinny Park Rozrywki Esplanada (The Family Park of Entertainment) offers a play on the slide Alpine Coaster with the downhill drive “above the roofs” of Szklarska Poręba. In Dinopark you can stand face to face with reptiles which lived hundreds of millions years ago. In museums you can find out about minerals and fossils from the whole world, and also the universe, the story of the Mountain Ghost, go to a virtual trip on National Park, and even take part in nature laboratory research.
Cross-Country Skiing/Piast Race – Worldloppet
Winter is not only downhill skiing or snowboarding, but also cross-country skiing. For over 30 years now, Szklarska Poreba has been the host of a great celebration of classic skiing – the Piast Race. Since 13 June 2008, the Piast Race is part of the Worldloppet (Worldloppet Ski Federation) – World Endurance Racing League, which now consists of fifteen races around the world. Cross-country skiing trails have a length of about 100 km. Part of the route is approved by the FIS. On-site equipment rentals to practice cross-country skiing, and instructors who will help choose the right equipment.

At the peaks of the Karkonosze Mountains has taken place one of the most spectacular marathons in the country - Maraton Karkonoski. Competitors run along Karkonosze Mountains peaks on the distance longer than 40 km and 2150 m of positive altitude change. This extremely tough as well as vivid run every year attracts hundreds of competitors. On 2013.08.03 within a framework of marathon will take place World Championship - WMRA World Mountain Running Long Distance Challenge
